Prelude

The petite crimson long haired demon buster shuddered in her sleep, tortured by the horrors that had occurred at Home II. The scenes played back soundlessly with a fight between a demon she’d never seen before…one wielding numerous swords. The battle raged on as she looked on helplessly, clutching her machete in shaking hands. The Cerberus gave a final thrust at the demon before being knocked away just as helplessly as I. The demon buster accompanying the trainee only gave what could have been made out as a ‘tch’ in her dead demons direction (if there was any sound, the trainee had seen it on her lips) before raising her gun at her assaulter. And finally, a sound pierced the dead silence. Unfortunately, it was far from being positive one. ‘RUN, MIRIALLIA!’ the demon buster had yelled in a high pitch voice. Miriallia looked upon her, horrified as the demon sliced her companion open, sending her blood flying into Miriallia’s eyes.

Her eyes bolted open and her body spasmed uncontrollably for a few moments. Tears slid slowly down her face but she quickly whipped them away with the back of her hand. Quietly, she took languorous breaths to calm herself. Flat on her back, she stared into Ueno’s perpetual night sky, using it to soothe her. Mir let her gaze linger back to her left side where her demon lay. ‘Are you alright, master?’ the Okuninushi whispered to her. ‘You’ve been tossing and turning in your sleep again,’ he continued. ‘Don’t worry about me, I’m fine, Oku’, She responded with a smile. ‘Such a liar’, the demon snickered at her comment. ‘You best shut up or I’ll replace you with a far more likeable demon’, she replied at him jokingly, feeling his grin fade. Suddenly realizing how normally she was talking to her demon with a near human appearance she gave him a death stare and he quieted down. Those bastards are the source of our problems and I’m going soft for this demon? Pfft. I’ll become nearly as despicable as they are. I stood suddenly and felt my demon stiffen in fear as if he felt I was going to lash out at him at any moment. Some nation-ruler he is… I signaled him to stand with a quick move of chin and he executed himself perfectly. ‘Hey, Oku... can demons fall in love?’ I asked suddenly without thinking. His height towered over the veteran demon buster but she was unafraid now, contrary to what she had been back at Home II. ‘Yes, master, we can in fact fall in love…least, the humanoids such as myself can…’ he answered with a quiet voice, knowing his master hated to feel threatened by the power of any demon. He also knew any demon she felt threatened by ended up slain. He shrugged away the thought quietly. ‘Hey, Oku, we’ve been partnered for a really long time haven’t we?’ the demon buster asked, raising her eyes to her guardian. He took a while before answering, estimating the time as roughly as possible. ‘Yes, master, it’s been a few months I believe, possibly nearly a year…’, he calculated. ‘So stop calling me master then. Call me Mir’, she responded, throwing him off guard as his eyes widened. ‘As…as you wish, Mir…’, he replied quickly, unsure of himself. As soon as his master turned heel a smile painted its way upon his face.
