Chapter 3: The sin of simplicity [part 2] -- Note: this one was a doozy!

She erred night and day, her mind whispering lies and slander to her defenseless ear. Her obsessions developed day by day as she struggled to get stronger to defeat Kamren. Though, she quickly noticed she was at the peak of what she could do by herself and that she now needed to take part in more difficult means of training. The deep Ichigaya dungeon. By herself, she'd never be able to undertake such an exploit even with her partner but with Kamren... 'Add betrayal to your list of sins', her mind snapped at her sharply. She walked into Shinjuku Babel and people turn to watch her walk. Small groups stopped talking when they saw her. When had she become such a celebrity? She walked slowly and uneasily, having to stop and lean on her crutch.

'You're such an ass hole Kamren! You think you're so high and mighty...' she heard a far off male voice shout rather loudly. She quickened her pace, curious about how the event might turn out. Kamren apparently stayed calm and collected as he watched the newcomer let out his fury. 'Just because you have an S class license! It doesn't make you king of the world!' the newcomer continued. Mir had now reached the south terminal and watched the exchange from afar. Her rival floated slightly above ground, spear about two meters in length poised before him. Would he dare stab someone in the middle of town? The man suddenly stopped floating then, letting himself fall graciously until his feet lay firmly against ground. The newcomer wasn't talkative anymore, feeling the danger emanating from the high-classed demon-buster. Kamren stood nearly nose to nose to him, he would have, had he been about six inches shorter. The man towered over the new demon-buster, using his height and strength to his advantage. He looked down at the newbie buster that seemed more and more like a frightened mouse in front of a great feline, terrified of being devoured. Mir eyed the Terminal girl who didn't seem to care about the exchange at all. She shot another quick glance at the small crowd that had bunched around the newbie and seasoned demon-buster. Each and every person had an interested look in their eye along with a sparkle of malice. She smirked to herself. 'Go to Hell, Kamren', the newbie shot at him, while pushing the man away, sending his chaos coat flutter in the wind.
This time, the man didn't seem to keep his composure as well as he advanced towards the newbie, a new look in his eye. Earlier, he had seemed bored and now he seemed to be in killer-mode. He grabbed the newbie by the neck and lifted him a few inches in the air. 'You're trash', the man finally said as he snapped the newbies neck with his other hand. The loud crack was heard through-out the city. The man knew the kid would probably be resurrected soon but the idea that he had snapped his neck seemed to satisfy his frustration. At least, for now it did. Kamren cut through the crowd and his eyes quickly found Mir's, her clothes having been somewhat singular among the crowd. He stopped walking instantly, frozen by the stupor of seeing her again so soon.

'Have you come to confess or fight me?', he said with a surprising gentleness in his voice, especially after what had happened. She stood before him, feeling powerless and numb. He towered over her as well though by at least a full foot. 'Or do you need extra healing?', he continued while carefully eying her crutch as if she would change her mind about being nice and smack him in the face with it.

'I...I'm fine, Kamren', Miriallia responded.

'By the way, what's your demon-buster ID? Surely Miriallia is your real name and not ID', the man asked casually.

'Miriallia isn't my name or ID it's just a nickname...', the crippled demon-buster answered.

'In any case, you seem stronger since the last time we saw each other. I'm supposing you're opting for the fight to the death option?', he asked as if he were just asking if she wanted a coffee or something.
His soon-to-be-opponent nodded affirmatively as he sighed at her answer. He advanced and cupped her chin between his index and thumb, holding her up in place. 'A shame I'll be ruining that face, then. It would be so much easier on the both of us if you just explained everything to good ole Kamren.'
Mir swallowed, suffocating inside, lungs on fire as if they didn't get enough air.

'I actually wanted to...ask you if you wanted to come to the Ichigaya golden demonic-city with me...' Mir finally answered. True stupefaction drew its signal traits upon Kamren's now delighted face.

'Well then! I'm ready to kick some ass when you are. Gonna be kinda hard without your demon though won't it? Also...we don't have anyone to enhance us...' her rival said while beginning to float once more, as if his floating represented his light mood. She attempted to shrug off his comment about Oku as they walked through a few isles of personal shops held by demons. She checked a few of them and fell upon an item that looked like an hourglass. She asked the shop keeper how much and it responded it was 2.5million. She sighed and pulled out 50 papers and handed it to him. The jack frost responded with a Hee-Hoo and handed her over the item.

'Do you know what that's even for?', her new partner asked, ready to tell her all about the item. She nodded that no, she didn't know what it was. 'Well, in a short resume it allows you to change what you're good in. Seeing as your main attribute is your speed, it would make you well, slow to pull the trigger and allow you to make your main attribute something else...', the man explained but quickly stopped and looked at her defiantly. 'You can't surely be thinking about changing your profession, now of all times, are you?'

'How do I use the item?', Mir asked the man. He sighed and explained the process to her. She underwent the first part of the process, resetting her main attribute and turned to him. 'What attribute does this crutch facilitate? Because I get the feeling I'll have it for quite a while and I can't shoot a sniper rifle with one hand...' the A-class buster, Miriallia said.
'Intelligence but surely you won't become an enhancer now...it's the hardest profession to get!' the man exclaimed. But it was too late, the damage was done. Miriallia changed her profession from that of Magic Bullet Gunner/Sharpshooter to that of an Enhancer. She suddenly felt annoyed by the fact she had changed so much in the past few days but shrugged that off quickly. Now wasn't the time to fight with herself. Now's the time to append my sins, she told herself. If I couldn't save Oku...now I get the chance to save someone else. The spear-man sighed but kept his comment to himself. Until the newbie from earlier reappeared. He prodded Mir sharply in the ribs, eliciting a small squeak from her.

'What a simple sin walking away, don't you think so, Mir?', the man asked her while pointing at the newbie from earlier.

-'And what sin would that be?', she asked him, curiosity slowly overcoming her hatred for him.

'Living', the man spat, as if ridding himself of venom by forsaking the C-Class demon-buster.

-'And don't call me Mir anymore...my name is Evermore Hereafter', the young woman snapped at him. The man with her didn't seem to be offended by the violence in her words and continued walking as if they had been friends for years.

'Evermore Hereafter...', the man said quietly as if savoring her name on the tip of his tongue.
Evermore aka Mir turned to watch her new rival-companion intently. His eyes seemed vacant as if he were imagining himself somewhere else. His eyes were gray and bleak, revealing nothing more about him but she knew he thought as she did and that he was starting to guess who she was. 'There are three categories of people in this world, Mir...I mean, Ever. One consists of Gods such as Mother Gaia and the Messian God. The other consists of the damned, the servants of those Gods. And the last category, I'll let you guess', the man told her, his eyes still away in their far-off land. The last category was that of demons, which kind she couldn't guess. 'I still wonder if you're part of the last category, Ever. But it seems soon enough I'll know', he continued.

'Such a simple sin it is for you to even exist among the humans, Ever. Doesn't it disgust you to sin so much?', a far-away part of her mind asked loudly. She remained pensive for a moment before responding to herself; 'Demons are beyond sins, mind'.

Moments later, torrents of water fell from the sky, through the protective dome over Shinjuku-Babel. It seemed so impossible but it was so blissful. Gods rule this world and the demons run rampant to punish the damned, the humans. Not the other way around. She smiled at the madness that began to unfurl in her mind. Her smile faded quickly though as she was reminded of her biggest sin. Murder.
